Technical diving is becoming more popular that ever, with many divers deciding that they want to use advanced skills, techniques and equipment to extend their diving range. For most divers this process starts with seeking advice from current technical divers and technical instructors. That’s entirely what TEKCamp is all about.
Now in it’s third year, TEKCamp 2013 is a chance to meet, chat and dive with some of the top technical instructors in the UK (apparently, that includes me? Not sure who thought of that!). If that wasn’t enough, you will also get to try out some of the cutting edge technical dive kit and meet the manufactures.
The format for TEKCamp 2013 is a week long program at Vobster Quay that not only gets you diving (at least once a day, depending on the package you buy), but also immerses you in technical diving when you’re not in the water. There are talks over lunch by some of the instructors about what they have been up to recently. In the evenings there are more talks by some of the worlds leading technical divers. Previous years have also included trips out, such as a guided tour of Wookey Hole.
For those who are fairly new to technical diving, this is great opportunity to decide what courses you want to do (because you are going to do courses and learn how to dive safely, aren’t you!?) and what equipment is best for you.
If you already have a technical diving qualification, TEKCamp 2013 is a chance for you to learn a few new skills and polish some of your techniques. Alternatively, you might just be interested in trying out some new toys? How about a rebreather try dive? Or a session learning how to use underwater scooters? Have you always wanted to try sidemount diving?
Just the talks, presentations and prizes on offer should be enough to tempt most divers along.
You don’t get a qualification at the end of TEKCamp 2013, but that’s not what the week is about. It’s all about meeting like minded people, and gaining experience in any number of dive skills. I haven’t met a single person who hasn’t found TEKCamp a benefit to their diving, technical or otherwise.
The last few tickets are still available for TEKCamp 2013, so if you fancy a fabulous week of technical diving I’d book up quick!
